I’m a woman of the times, on time, behind time. I can’t wait, don’t have time to wait. I put on weight, I lose weight. I’m texting, typing, LOLing, OMGing. I’m digitally in touch, not re-touched. I’m not on my iPod, I’m posting, tweeting, linking, liking – my wall is never dry. I’m a social networking butterfly.

I’m a new age 60 something year old woman, ageless, but not ageist. I’m free range, free spirited, free willed, not on a leash. I’m going strong, in one direction. I’m letting my feelings out, I’m putting fires out, I’m putting my feelers out. I don’t internalize, I vocalize.

I’m a story telling, shopping savvy, cappuccino sipping, book clubbing, healthy eating, yoga loving, world traveller.

I commenced 50 Shades of Age in 2012 as a platform to encourage and inspire women of my age. The majority of us have led a busy fulfilled life being mothers, wives and co-breadwinners. After reaching that milestone age of 50, with kids leaving the nest and feeling unemployable, I felt a big void in my life. It was with this in mind that I decided to start up 50 Shades Of Age – a website where I could reach out to my sisters and tell them that their lives could be so much more. I wanted to be the voice for the new-age over 50 year olds to empower and motivate them to feel worthy again! We have so much to offer.

The over 50’s age group are the fastest growing group of jetsetters. We are off ‘spending the kids inheritance’ and seeing a bit of the world! There is a whole new market out there for my generation as we become more savvy at ‘surfing the net’ on our iPhones, iPads and tablets.

My real passion is travelling and photographing brilliant destinations both within Australia and overseas. I hope to continue to bring more stories about this very popular past- time for our age group.

I have been surfing online more than 3 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It’s pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all web owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the web will be much more useful than ever before.

Hiya, I’m really glad I’ve found this info. Nowadays bloggers publish just about gossips and internet and this is actually frustrating. A good web site with exciting content, that’s what I need. Thank you for keeping this site, I will be visiting it. Do you do newsletters? Can’t find it.

My word, I am so glad your blog ended up high on my Google search. You are a breath of fresh air. Your words echo exactly how I am feeling and what I am thinking. It makes me feel so sad for what I have not achieved in 40 years, but also excited by what I can achieve in the next 40 years.

Just read your “About me”, you put a welcomed smile on my face. In January I will be starting my first blog and am now hungry for blogs exactly like yours. I wonder if when you wrote that piece (About Me), did it flow right from your mind to your key board, or was it a thought process? Regardless I instantly signed up for more of your work. I love your style. Rachel.

Thank You Rachel. I am always happy to welcome new followers. My “about me” was actually inspired by a TV Ad by Kia cars that was running at the time. I just changed the wording around a bit to suit me. Good luck with your own blog. It is a lot of fun and I’m sure you will meet some lovely people and enjoy the blogging world :)

    Thank you Page!
I am 58, and I am Not old. I work in Abu Dhabi, where the Emirati feel that once you have passed 40…That’s it! Going back to America next week. Thank you for your blog!

Hi Cindy, I totally agree! Age is a number not a state of mind. Thank God I don’t live in Abu Dhabi. I would be well and truly past my use by date! Thanks for dropping by my blog. :)

Cindy, I was drawn here by your post about “The Old Maid,” but, being a 50-something woman, I really like your other posts as well! I feel like I’m getting a virtual visit to Australia — which will have to sufffice, until I can make a real visit there. I’m writing a book called, “The New Old Maid: How Happily Unmarried Women are Defying Spinster Stereotypes.” I invite your readers to “like” my The New Old Maid Facebook page (they don’t have to be old maids, single or even women). Thanks for representing Women of a Certain Age. We still have a lot to say and do (in between hot flashes!)

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving some positive feedback. I like to think that as a 50 something year old woman that I am somehow inspiring other women my age to get out there and make the most of their lives. I would interested in reading your book once it is published. I will give you a “like” on your Facebook page. :)

Just found your blog via the write up by Sharon Gourlay. Glad I dropped by for a look.

You are to be congratulated in several ways. Not just for opening so many people’s eyes to the wonders of your beautiful country, but to recognize the very real feelings of emptiness and loss so many of us, woman and man feel after heading into the ’60’s.

Having a blog on a subject which means something to the blogger (aside from misguided attempts to “make money from the Internet”) is so much more than just digital letters and words on Ethernet paper.

It can give aperson a real sense of their own worth while helping so many other in qiet, powerful ways.

Thank you so much for reading my story Dave. It is a transitional time in life for empty-nesters and retirees. I knew once I had more time on my hands I was going to make the most of this time of my life. Travelling and writing about it is one of the wonderful things in my life that has kept me gainfully employed and prevented me from becoming stagnant.

    Hi Kathy,

I’m happy to find your blog a search of 50+ bloggers. I was anxious to see what other women of my “generation” were talking about.

I’ve been blogging for a while, mostly travel, but was dissatisfied with the way it was going. So, I’ll be releasing my new, improved version soon! More of lifestyle, not only travel-although there’ll be some of that as well since traveling is my passion!

    • Kathy

Thank you for making contact Deidre. Blogging is addictive and something that I get a lot of enjoyment from. I wish you luck with your new venture.
